Hi Members,
The end of another year is approaching. I feel so blessed to have the honour of being your society President. Loving the networking so central to the society. Getting to know many more of you better. Thank you everyone who has attended the live meetings this year and helped to give them the friendly, but professional vibe we cherish so much – even more appreciated after lockdown.
It was an absolute joy to be able to bring back the live BSP workshop weekend in November.
We have come also to enjoy the benefits of webinars, seeing faces of ex-colleagues and friends who maybe cannot travel to all the live meetings. We can take advantage of speakers from all over the world. Professor Asifa Majid now based in Oxford, was able to deliver the wonderful session in September from her sabbatical post in the US. Our bloggers and fragrance writers panel in October included people based in the US and Europe. Do take the opportunity to watch the videos of any webinars you have missed, you will find them all in the members area of the website. Please contact our Marketing Team via email; marketing@bsp.org.uk if you have any problems logging in. We are planning to bring the older ones into the public website space, to become a wider educational resource.
Also all our Quarter 1 events are due to be published before Christmas so please take a moment to review these on our website, and don’t miss the first webinar of the year on January 26th 2023 – on the use of AI in Perfumery.
I would like to thank our council for all their work and dedication. Thanks to everyone who helps in the background to keep the cogs of the organisation turning, thanks to those who bring all the events to fruition and thanks to the marketing, social media and website team who are bringing our profile forward so successfully. Many members and non-members alike are seeing the media content and praising it.
We are planning on bringing all these threads forward into the New Year. The BSP was formed in the Spring of 1963, so we are approaching our 60th year and want to celebrate it in style, so watch this space as the year unfolds.
The council strategy team have been building an explicit understanding of what we are about. I can feel our conversations taking shape even in this letter. We intend to share this more broadly with the membership this year and look forward to your responses and input.
One of our aims has been to work more closely with sister societies developing on the joint events that have always been a feature of the society.
I hope to see many of you at the event on February 9th where 3 societies come together for the first time, the BSP, SCS and the BSF. There will be an afternoon of lectures about fragrance jointly organised with the SCS ‘from Creation to Retail’ and then in the evening we will look at how the damascones are used in fragrances and flavours with the BSP and the BSF.
Wishing you all a joyful festive season and looking forward to sharing a fragrant and fruitful New Year.
Yours scentfully,
Marianne Martin
BSP President
