The 19th century represents a revolutionary turning point in most industries. This is particularly true for perfumery, mainly thanks to the great advances in synthetic chemistry. The art of perfumery shifted from a highly skilled craft, reserved for a wealthy clientele, towards a so-called modern perfumery open to a broader public.
