Dr Kate McLean-MacKenzie specialises in interpreting and communicating landscapes of smell, known as smellscapes, via ‘smell maps’. Through public engagement, smellwalks, data analysis, and generating data visualisations of smellscapes, her work in architecture and design reflects on integrating smell into historical and community perceptions of space. She uses a range of digital and analogue media to encourage and stimulate people to reconsider their sense of smell, nose-first.
