How the Damask Rose bore fruit for Perfumer & Flavourists
About the Event:
Damascones, first discovered in rose oil in 1970, are the stars of the evening. Since 1970 they have found a key place in both perfumers’ and flavourists’ palettes. An expert in each field will talk you through the uses of Damascones, with demonstration samples to smell and taste. The Flavourist will be John Wright – you may be familiar with his articles in Perfumer & Flavorist, which were the inspiration for this meeting. He will be joined by Christian Bickel Perfumer at Firmenich. We anticipate that this will be an exciting evening of discovery on many levels, for creators in both fields, as well as for those interested in just how the magic of composition is performed every day in our industry.
7pm: Welcome from Marianne Martin (BSP) & Trevor Groome (BSF)
7.10pm – 7.45pm Christian Bickel (Firmenich): The discovery of Damascones and how they have become key in perfumery creation today
This presentation will touch on the analytical skills which lead to the discovery of Damascones in rose oil in 1970. Then you will be able to experience the materials themselves and Christian will demonstrate how they transform a perfume composition.
7.45pm – 8.20pm: Flavourist John Wright: How the Damascones have borne fruit in flavours
John Wright will showcase how the Damascones are used in flavour compositions. The participants will taste their effects as well as smell them.
8.20pm – 8.45pm: Presenters with Marianne Martin & Trevor Groome – Q&A and close of meeting
